Privacy Policy
GameSpotr (“GameSpotr,” “we,” “us”) is a mobile app, published by David Whitt, that helps people find bars, pubs and other venues with games such as pool, darts, pinball and arcade machines. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. Questions? Email davidwhitt@brotherwanderer.com.
1. Information we collect
| Information | When and why |
|---|---|
| Account information — your name and email address, and a unique user ID | When you sign in with Apple or Google. We use it to create and operate your account. If you use Sign in with Apple’s “Hide My Email” option, we only receive Apple’s private relay address. We never receive your Apple or Google password. |
| Display name | Created from your name when you sign up; you can change it in Profile. It is shown to other users. |
| Location — your device’s location while the app is in use | To show game spots near you, calculate distance, and confirm you are within about 200 meters of a spot when you check in. We also save your most recent location (coordinates and a coarse geohash) so we can send notifications about nearby spots. We do not track your location in the background and do not request “Always” location access. |
| Content you create — reviews and ratings, spots you add, tags/amenities you suggest, verifications and reports | To operate the community features. Reviews, ratings and spot contributions are visible to other signed-in users alongside your display name. |
| Activity — check-ins, XP and level, leaderboard standing, last-seen time | To provide check-ins, “local legend” and leaderboard features. Your display name and XP appear on the leaderboard; your display name appears in a spot’s recent visitors and local-legend list when you check in. |
| Device tokens — push notification tokens (Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging) | To deliver notifications you permit. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings. |
We do not collect your contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, health data, or financial information. The app contains no advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites. Analytics collection in the Firebase SDK is turned off.
2. How we use information
- Provide, maintain and improve GameSpotr, including showing nearby spots and operating check-ins, reviews and leaderboards.
- Send notifications you have allowed, such as announcements or messages about spots near you.
- Keep the community safe: review reported content, remove content that violates our Community Guidelines, and ban abusive users.
- Respond to your requests and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
3. Content moderation
When you submit a review, the text may be checked for inappropriate content using Apple’s on-device language model on supported devices. That check runs on your device. Reviews that users report are hidden and sent to a human moderator, who may restore or remove them.
4. Who we share information with
- Other users. Your display name, ratings, reviews, check-ins and XP are visible to other signed-in users. Your email address, exact location and tokens are not shown to other users.
- Service providers. We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage and Cloud Messaging) to run the app. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Sign-in providers. Apple (Sign in with Apple) and Google (Google Sign-In) authenticate you and tell us your name and email.
- Maps and place data. The app uses Apple Maps to display maps and search, and Google Places data (photos and reviews, labeled “Google”) to enrich spot pages. We request place information by business, not by user, and we do not send your personal information to Google for this purpose.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the app.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Delete Account. Your account is deactivated immediately and permanently deleted after 30 days. If you log in again within those 30 days, deletion is cancelled and your account is re-activated. After deletion, your account and personal information are removed and cannot be recovered. Content you contributed, such as spot listings and reviews, may be removed or anonymized so that it no longer identifies you. Backups and logs may retain limited data for a short period before they are overwritten.
You can also request deletion by emailing davidwhitt@brotherwanderer.com.
6. Your choices and rights
- Location: change or turn off access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → GameSpotr. Without it you can still browse spots but cannot check in or see distances.
- Notifications: turn off in iOS Settings → Notifications → GameSpotr.
- Access, correction, deletion: you can edit your display name in the app and delete your account as described above. Depending on where you live (for example California, other U.S. states, the EEA or the UK), you may have additional rights to access, correct, port or delete your data, or to object to or restrict processing. To exercise them, email us from the address on your account. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls and encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
GameSpotr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because the app lists venues that serve alcohol, some listings are 21+. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International users
Our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data-protection laws from where you live.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the date above. If changes are significant we will notify you in the app.
